Space Heater Safety in Clackamas, Oregon

1/8/2020 (Permalink)

In Clackamas, Oregon we know how cold it can get here at the drop of the hat. Due to this,

many people rely on space heaters to help heat their spaces or even as a supplemental heating source. While space heaters can be a great source of heat and to bring comfort, they are also a major fire hazard and should be used carefully. These following tips from the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) can help reduce the change of a space heater related fire:

  • Never leave a space heater unattended and always turn it off when leaving the room
  • Do not leave a space heater in a room where there are children or pets walking around
  • Space heaters are meant to help heat you up and should not be used to warm up clothing or bedding
  • Turn off your space heater prior to going to bed
  • Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn
  • Keep space heaters flat and on the floor. Do not use them on top of tables or counters
  • Ensure that you have the proper smoke detectors in your space and that they are working.

If you do happen to experience a space heater fire, immediately vacate your residence and call 911. After you have had a chance to catch your breath, call SERVPRO of Milwaukie Happy Valley at 503-652-3997 to help you get your life back to “Like it never even happened.”
